THE DRAWING BOARD
I came up with the idea for an underground dog house many years ago on a hot summer day after watching my dog dig holes to cool off in the yard. He didn’t love the expensive dog house I’d bought for him as it did nothing to cool him off in the heat of the day. I began drafting up ways to recreate what dogs had instinctually done from the beginning of time.
THE DogEden WAS BORN
The first underground doghouse I built and installed in my yard was fairly rudimentary, but it worked better than I could have ever imagined. I placed it next to the expensive doghouse I purchased and let my dog choose which he preferred. The underground house won hands down, not only was it cooler than the “hot house” of a doghouse I purchased, but it was cool like in the mid 60's inside. My dog loved it!
From that point I knew I had an amazing idea that just needed some clever engineering to pull it off. The first two design tries were very large and presented many challenges with regards to shipping and material cost to produce. But hard work pays off, and the DogEden was born.
THE BETA MODEL
The model you see to the right was nearly the perfect size and shape to accomplish all of the design goals we had. After some exhaustive field testing we were able to validate the models performance and function over the long run. The beta model was nice and cool in the summer, warm in the winter, easy to ship, install and convenient for the dog to use. Furthermore, every dog we tested the beta model on preferred the beta DogEden to conventional doghouses, especially in extreme weather where safety and comfort are paramount!
Since then we’ve made a multitude of incremental improvements and have re-worked the shape for even better optimization of room, egress and overall size. With that process complete we have moved forward with a small to medium-large sized DogEden that we know works for dogs 60 lbs and less.
